Title: Annual Research Payroll Certification Process

Subject Matter: NU-RES Finance will provide an overview of the Annual Certification process and updates for FY24. Additionally, highlights compliance areas, timelines, and best practices for allocating effort throughout the fiscal year.

Additional Information: Each year at this time is when the Research Annual Certifications must be completed. Federal regulations require that compensation and effort devoted to sponsored projects are appropriately documented and must be supported by a system of internal control that provides reasonable assurance that the charges are accurate, allowable, and properly allocated. This policy defines and establishes University practices for effort reporting and assures those sponsors that salary and wages are properly accounted for. Northeastern’s effort and Annual Certification process provide the principal means for certifying that the salaries and wages are reasonable and allocable.
